Cristina Larrea |  SCIENCE

PhD in Social Anthropology at the University of Barcelona (UB) in 1994 in the “Social Sciences and Health” program, she is currently professor at the Department of Social Anthropology of this same university. In 1996 she was hired as adjunct professor and in 2001 she became Associate Professor. She has collaborated as visiting professor in several international universities of Brazil, Ecuador, Cuba and Colombia, and was also recognised as visitant professor at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA-Brazil). Her research is focused on environmental health in urban and rural settings. Her ethnographic work on urban sanitation in marginal urban neighborhoods, and in the health conditions of shellfish fishers from Afro-descendant communities in Brazil is remarkable. Actually, she is a member of the research group CRITS (Anthropology of Crisis and Contemporary Transformations) of the Social Anthropology Department. She also collaborates with other research groups such as CIBER-ESP (Epidemiology and Public Health) and in UFBA. She has several national and international publications and articles in scientific journals.
