
Teresa Forcades i Vila | THEOLOGY
Physician, theologian and Benedictine nun in the mountain monastery of Sant Benet de Montserrat (Catalonien, Spain). Master of Divinity (Harvard, 1997), doctor in Medicine (U. Barcelona, 2004) and doctor in Sacred Theology (Facultat de Teologia de Catalunya, 2007). In English she has published ‘Faith and Freedom’ (Polity Press, 2016) and the widely distributed booklet ‘Crimes and Abuses of the Pharmaceutical Companies’ (Cristianisme i Justícia, Booklet 124, 2006). In Catalan, Spanish or Italian she has authored ten other books, among them ‘La teologia feminista en la història’ (Feminist theology in history, 2007), ‘Ser persona, avui’ (To be a person today, 2011), ‘Per amor a la justícia: Dorothy Day i Simone Weil (For the love of justice: Dorothy Day and Simone Weil, 2015), ‘Els reptes del Papa Francesc’ (The challenges of Pope Francis, 2017) and ‘Il Corpo, Tempio di Dio?: la materia come spazio di incontro tra divino e humano’ (The body, temple of God? Matter as the place of encounter between human and divine, 2019). Since 2011 she teaches at her monastery and on-line two open courses a year on theological and medical topics; she has also been professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin (2013-14) and at the Universidad Iberoamericana de Ciudad de México (2018-19). From 2015-18 she took a leave of absence from her monastery (exclaustration) to become politically active in the Catalan moviment for independence. Since 2017 Forcades is director of the journal of Christian critical thought Iglesia Viva and hosts a weekly radio program in the Catalan radio (Pàgines que m’han corprès at radioestel.cat).
